Removing the Engine, Drive Train, & Some Miscellaneous Stuff

10/8/2007

Time to pull the power plant.

The goal:         The reality:

Here goes:

9 October 2007

The exhaust and headers on the way to the scrap metal bin.

10 October 2007

The radiator is gone, the steering box is next.

11 October 2007

Steering gear box and fan removed.

13 October 2007

The gas tank, empied and removed. Whoo!!! Hoo!!! No explosion!!!

I knew everything was going too well. Finally found the frame rot. Right at the rear of the frame at the leaf spring attachment point. Could be worse, but will require the attention of my welder. Now I just have to make it to Marion IN to get it.

4 December 2007

This bolt can be seen in the previous picture just in front of the rear most rust hole. It looks like it's been submerged in salt water for 20 years, not connecting an exhaust hanger to the frame.

Drive shafts, brake lines, and gas lines removed.

The bumper and gas tank skid plates removed.

About all that's left is lifting the drivetrain.

27 January 2008

The Transfer case removed.

The transmission removed.

Torque converter removed.

Skid plate removed, soaking the bolts on the fly wheel. I managed to get one loose, but the rest won't budge even with a pneumatic impact wrench. PB Blast to the rescue.

11 Feb 08

Took two weeks, a can of PB Blast, an impact wrench, a blow torch, and three cases of beer but the bolts in the fly wheel finaly came free. The engine is on the stand.
