Overhaul  of Acephalous

mmmm.... Something smells like frying bacon... Oh, damn...  Pass the aloe.

I need some shade.

Contrary to what you might think, that is not a picture of the sun, it is a view of the top of my bald head after a day in the sun.  Time to construct a bimini top for the cockpit area.  The burn - peel - burn - peel cycle must be broken.  As long as I'm at it, might as well replace that worn out old dodger too....  winch covers???  line bags???  helm cover???  Oh boy, the ever expanding project...  here we go again.

This is my inspiration....

Now I just have to learn how to sew.

There's something growing in the bilge and in an act akin to a declaration of war, it has neutralized the bilge pump.

It seems that without my constant attention a slimy primordial soup wants to grow in the bilges and gum up my bilge pump float switch.  If Darwin is correct this may be a thriving civilization in about 4 billion years.  I can't take that chance; it's already too smart.  I've got to find a way to stop this bilgology experiment.

So, while I'm preparing to launch a chemical attack on the enemy that would've made Kaiser Wilhelm II and the invading Hun proud, I notice the piss poor wiring job on the bilge pump.  Someone actually used crimp connections for the bilge pump and switch.  That should effectively render the pump useless should the water ever reach the electrical connections.  Bilge pumps that don't work sink boats.  I wonder how I missed this during the overhaul?  Well, as long as I'm fixing this mess, I might as well install a back up pump, switch, and run the wiring to the other battery bank.

This slimy green substance found the weak spot in the system, now I must try to outsmart algae.  Wish me luck.

It's finally time to make the top of the boat look as good as the bottom.

It's spring time in Florida, if you have to paint with 2 part epoxy paints now's the time to do it.

Here's the continuation of last year's painting project.  There are a couple of reasons I didn't wrap this up last year.

Firstly my weather window closed.  The daytime temperature hovered above ninety every day, the humidity of a Florida summer is nice, but not condusive to to painting with two part epoxy paints.

Secondly, the boat yard is not a very good place to paint horizontal surfaces.  There is a hell of a lot of dust being produced up there between the dirt roads and the sanding of other boats.

Thirdly after screwing with it for 3 months, I was damn sick of painting by June of last year.

Maintaining teak sucks, I'm not going to do it anymore.

Like there's not enough to do on a boat; lets sand, oil, and seal teak every couple of months.  Nah, I have a better idea.  Lets get rid of the teak that's exposed to the weather.  I'm replacing some of it with a PVC wood substitute and getting rid of the useless strictly decorative pieces.

You may remember this project from such years as 2005 and 2006

Me & Tony

It's Sunday afternoon and there's no football and no wind... What to do?

Some say a Gunner's mate is nothing but a Bos'n mate with a hunting license.  Well I've got a big pile of small stuff and some bare metal I don't feel like polishing anymore.

Let's see if there's enough Bos'n mate in me to remember how to do some fancy work with this line.

Boat repair?

I'm trying to think, but nothing's happening.
