Replacing Plastic and Fixing Sagging Shelves |
||
|
I initially thought that wood work would have to be disassembled to remove the plexiglass. Then I read a do-it-yourself article on the Catalina 34 International Association website project page. I did what the author of that project did. I used a bottle jack and raised the center of the shelf about a 5/8" then installed a piece of 1 1/2" diameter oak dowel to keep it raised about 3/8". It worked well. The doors slid freely and I could remove them. I chose to use bead board to replace them. I also decided to go with a lighter finish than the wood around it just for some contrast. I finished them off with some antiqued brass knobs to match what I installed on the on the drawers and cabinets throughout the boat. The Cost: Wood dowel: $4.00 Bead Board: $40.00 Stain/brushes/sealer: $20.00 Grand Total: $64.00 and two days labor.
